After it was discovered that YIn1-xMnxO3 compounds produced a range of intense blue pigments as a result of the Mn3+ in the trigonal bipyramidal site, a variety of cation substitutions were attempted in the search of additional inorganic color pigments. Recently, a range of pigments have been developed in the blue, turquoise, green, and orange families.
